Articles & Essays

I’ve published more than 300 short pieces in national and local newspapers, magazines and online outlets, among them:  Village Voice, Miami Herald, MSNBC.com, Huffington Post, Miami New Times, Porthole, Florida Trend and Florida History & the Arts.

Since 2008 I’ve been blogging at An American in Lima.  I write about everything from kids dying in the Andes to meeting boy matadors in the local park to why Americans are fatter than Peruvians.  In the last year or so, I’ve widened my scope from expat concerns to social justice issues, and this shift has brought my work a wider online readership via National Geographic Traveler, Huffington Post, Global Voices Online, NOW Public, Amazon Cares and the monthly roundup, Just Posts for a Just World, which named me a Best of 2009 finalist.
